Volunteer with Best Friends

Sometimes, the best gift you can give to pets in need is your time. So we’re thrilled that you’re interested in volunteering with Best Friends–New York. We rely on dedicated volunteers to help Save Them All.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Foster: If you love pets but can't adopt, you can help save lives by participating in our foster program. To learn more and apply to foster a pet, click here.

Lifesaving Center: The Best Friends Lifesaving Center in New York is currently open for adoptions by appointment and to volunteers who have been trained for the following roles: cat care, hospitality docent, and cleaning assistant. If you have been trained for any of these roles, click here to sign up for a shift. If you would like to sign up to be a lifesaving center volunteer, please first create a volunteer profile and then view our Lifesaving Center Orientation here. If you are already a Lifesaving Center volunteer and would like to be trained for the hospitality docent position, please sign up for a mentor shift on the orintation and traings calendar here

Borough Engagement Team: The Borough Engagement Team is a great way to get involved from home! This team is a collaboration of staff and volunteers looking to improve our connection with our communities. With this team, Best Friends New York aims to expand our audience and offer information and resources to communities we haven't reached before. Once you have a volunteer profile, you can click here to learn more about the Borough Engagement Team.

Spanish Translators: Spanish-speaking volunteers are supporting our efforts enormously from home by translating our content and written materials into Spanish. Please find more information on our Spanish translation opportunity on the "Opportunities" tab of your Volunteer Center homepage.

Previous Volunteer with Best Friends?

If you've volunteered with Best Friends before (at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary or in one of our program cities), you probably have a volunteer profile already. All you need to do to get started is email volunteerNYC@bestfriends.org and we'll set up your account so that you can view and sign up for New York volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers must be at least 12 years old, and volunteers between the ages of 12 and 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Please note that depending on the volunteer opportunity, minimum age may vary.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact volunteerNYC@bestfriends.org. Thank you again for caring about homeless pets. Together, we can Save Them All.
